Year 5
Welcome to Year 5! In Year 5 we have 3 classes: 5W is taught by Mr Reggie; 5M is taught by Miss Whitty; and 5H is taught by Mr Timothy. Through the course of an exciting and engaging week, students have classes in numeracy (mathematics), literacy (guided reading, writing, grammar and spelling), IPC (science, history, geography and social studies) and art. Students also attend specialist classes where they further their knowledge and skills in PE, music, dance, library, French and Amharic. The last two periods of every Thursday throughout the year is the activities block where students choose classes which range from sports to arts & crafts to cooking! Friday afternoon is assembly time when each class in Key Stage 2 performs skits and plays which show something about what that class has been learning. It's great FUN!
The Time Tunnel
Year 5 recently started a new unit of learning called The Time Tunnel. This unit is part of the International Primary Curriculum and will last about 6 weeks. The Time Tunnel unit comprises of six parts, which includes the areas of geography, history, art, and international. During this unit of learning, students explore and are challenged to find out about how historical time can be recorded and measured, along with how we can interpret past events of what happened at different times in different cultures. In addition, students will examine the history of Ethiopia and their own home country through the creation of timelines, whereby they can be creative through adding their own drawings, photographs, artifacts and pictures! Finally, students will use maps to find out about the
history of a location as well as how artists from different periods have used art to record history.
